The Next Web NYC - Katia Beauchamp, Birchbox

Katia Beauchamp and cofounder Hayley Barna started Birchbox with the lofty goal of changing the way people shop for beauty. Despite their initial challenge with getting venture investors on board with a disruptive beauty company, they found product-market fit right away and the business took off. Birchbox grew rapidly - hitting its five-year plan in seven months and reaching more than 1 million subscribers in five years - but the novelty of the subscription format overshadowed the vision and deeper purpose.
